Wheel Throwing Classes
Wheel Throwing is the exciting and rewarding technique of shaping clay on a spinning pottery wheel.
You will learn how to take a bag of clay and work it so that you can create functional pottery such as bowls, mugs, vases, cups, and plates.
Wheel throwing allows you to make beautiful, symmetrical forms that are difficult to achieve with hand-building alone.
There is a learning curve! While it will feel challenging at first, wheel throwing is very fun once you understand the fundamentals. In no time, you will be able to ‘throw a pot’ and enjoy the satisfaction of making a beautiful, functional piece of art!
Our classes are designed to guide you through the process of wheel throwing step-by-step, from centering your clay to pulling elegant walls and handles, whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your skills.
Hand building with clay just requires some simple tools and your hands!
This ancient technique includes methods such as pinching, coiling, and slab building, allowing you to create functional pieces like bowls, mugs, and plates, as well as sculptural and decorative objects.
We have many students that have made beautiful clay totems to use in their gardens or as a focal point in their home. Other students have made tea pots, figurines and vases, and anything that your imagination can conceive of! With an experienced instructor in each class, you can rest assured that you can bring your vision into reality.
Hand-building is wonderful for beginners because it’s forgiving, intuitive, and gives you complete control over the shape and texture of your work.
Whether you enjoy precise and structured forms, or organic, free-flowing designs, hand-building encourages personal expression and endless creativity.
Our classes are taught by experienced artists and you can decide what project you would like to begin with during class.
